With the increase in obesity in young children, Michael teaches Physical Education using developmentally appropriate activities that include skill-building in the following areas: agility, balance, exercise, team building, coordination, fine motor and gross motor skills to 3 & 4-year-old children.
Carousel builds its internal school community in various ways: Parent Committee, Fundraising, Events for children, families and staff; and reaching out to our larger community by helping the needy, hosting musical events, and planning unique field trips to enhance the children’s curriculum.
Our nutrition and health curriculum and education are incorporated weekly into each of our classroom’s curriculum using books, charts, props and materials for each child. There is an importance in teaching young children about living and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, trying and choosing healthy foods that are not filled with just sugar, trans fat or high carbs. Carousel provides education to families toward making healthier food choices that also taste great and are easy to make.
Carousel is fortunate to have large outdoor spaces for children that are surrounded by trees, grass and nature. In our Outdoor Classroom we have furniture, props and materials that reflect the outdoors and nature. We add various materials to those nature items: paint colors that reflect what the children would find in colors of nature, art materials, math materials, water play materials, planting materials, etc., so the children can have fun learning and creating a variety of things that will reflect some form of nature. How wonderful it is for young children to be able to create a painting of trees when trees are right in front of them; to create an object using blocks that were cut from trees; to use large shells to play in the sand; and to learn a new way of planting lettuce in a large bag! In addition to the education children will receive in our Outdoor Classroom, our children’s garden is created by and for the children. Our children’s garden is a place where children learn how vegetables and flowers grow because they grow and maintain them from seeds, learning what their needs are, and monitoring their growth right here in their own garden.
